Composing with Temperaments in Superposition

Jackson Gearing's Newest Original Compositions Engage With Inventive Forms of Microtonality
One of Jackson's recent ventures and primary focuses involves adapting advanced microtonal concepts into a performable acoustic atmosphere. Proposing a new way to define and platform tuning systems, Jackson is creating his unique musical language with the primary goal of fusing multiple tuning systems into one, creating a new range of sonorities for artistic expression. Currently, Jackson is composing a work for two electric pianos that engage in the superposition of the just-tuned pentatonic scale with the 5-tone equal tempered scale. Dilation for Wind Symphony

Jackson's Newest Wind Ensemble Work, an Extension to his Award-Winning Composition, Inundation
Jackson is sculpting his newest large ensemble work, Dilation. Inspired by different motions and complexities of the human eye, Jackson is creating a kaleidoscopic and colorful work for wind ensemble as part of his Master thesis at the UMKC Conservatory. To start the work, Jackson takes the final chord from his award-winning piece, Inundation, and takes the material in an entirely new direction. Steeped in microtonality, extended techniques, and the colorful palette of the wind ensemble, he aims to evoke an awe-struck and sensual soundscape for the listener.
